Air Inuit Flights

Many Inuit in Northern Labrador have family in Northern Quebec, and once a year, they get the chance to hop on a flight direct to Kuujuaq to visit family during Christmas time.

The Air Inuit charter flights from Kuujuaq to Nain will be flying on December 20th this year, and the flight will be returning on December 27th.

We spoke to Mara Berbec who is the Reservation Agent for Air Inuit.

She says there are 4 people booked from Kuujuaq to Nain and 7 people are returning from Nain to Kuujuaq.

If you would like to get on the charter you can call 1-800-361-2965.

The approximate cost of the flight one way is $571.78 and return is $1,142.30 but this could change.

Berbec adds that Air Inuit has no flights during Christmas day on the 25th or Boxing day on the 26th.

The Sir Robert Bond

Remember we told you yesterday, that the Astron was on her way to Cartwright to load for ports to Nain?

And we said this would be her last trip up the north coast for this year?

Well, obviously, that has changed.

The Sir. Robert Bond arrived in Nain yesterday at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Some people knew about the Bond coming to Nain, but it was a complete surprise to others.

Dennis White is with the Woodward's Group of Companies in Goose Bay.

We asked him what was with all the secrecy surrounding the Bond's trip to Nain and why they didn't notify the public.

He said they weren't trying to be secrative.

They only decided to send the Bond up the north coast on Saturday evening.

He says they weren't publizing this because they weren't sure if the Bond would be able to dock in Nain due to weather conditions.

They didn't want to have to send the Bond back without docking in Nain and have to move the freight on to the Astron to send up.

So, all the freight is now moved from Cartwright to Nain and the Astron doesn't have to come back anymore this year.

Wouldn't it be great to have a freight boat like the Sir Robert Bond serve the north coast regularly?

Anglican Minister for Hopedale

The Moravian Church of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Anglican Church of Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to have an Anglican Minister serve in the community of Hopedale.

Reverend Brian Burrow of the Anglican Church started his ministry in Hopedale on November 21st.

He could be in Hopedale for three years, but he says, he'll stay for one year and see how it goes.

Rev. Burrow is originally from England and moved to Canada in 1962.

He lived in Niagara-on-lake in Ontario and has served in Povungnituk, Nunavik, for 5 years and in Iqaluit, Nunavut for 8 years.

He says Hopedale is a beautiful community and it reminds him of kangirsuk in Nunavik.

We will be speaking with Rev. Brian Burrow for our Labrador Memories radio show in the near future.

Coalition Parties take-over Government

Did you think when the Federal Conservatives won a minority government in the election seven weeks ago, that was the end of the story?

Maybe not.

The Liberal and New Democratic Parties have formed a coalition, or partnership and plan on voting against the governing Conservative in a non-confidence vote about a budget update on Monday.

So, if the Conservatives get out-voted, it will be up to the Governor General of Canada, Michaelle Jean to decide what happens.

Either, she will let the Liberal/NDP coalition take over running the Government, meaning Stephan Dion would be our new Prime Minister.

Or, the Governor General could dissolve Parliament all together and call for another general election.

So, we'll see what happens on Monday.
