Rose Daley is the director of the campaign for the Cancer Society.
She says once completed, Daffodil Place will provide a comfortable spot where cancer patients will be able to stay when they are away from home receiving treatment.
Daffodil Place is expected to begin operations in the spring of 2009.
Daley says she is very happy because the donation will be a very big help in the operation of the building when it opens its doors for patients.
Max Winters is a cancer survivor from Goose Bay and he said a speech at the donation ceremony in St. John's.
Then the power went out again in November for about two and a half days.
This caused a lot of hardship for people in Nain, especially when the power was out in November and the weather was colder.
The power outage left people with no heat and no way of cooking their food.
This very unpleasant experience prompted Nain's Inuit Community Government and other interested groups to start working on an Emergency Plan for the Community.
The plan would deal with unexpected emergencies like a possible lengthy power outage in the middle of winter.
Sarah Erickson is the AngajukKâk in Nain.
She says they held a meeting last night to see where they are with their Emergency Plan and to see what other plans they need to make.
Erickson says at last night's meeting they got some good advise from different resources including someone from Labrador Grenfell Health.
She says the Nain Inuit Community Government and Nunatsiavut's Department of Health and Social Development are working together on the plan.
One of the things they're trying to do is purchase a generator for the Community Hall.
So that in the event of another lengthy power outage, they would open up the hall after eight hours so people can stop in and warm up.
This morning we spoke with Sandy Watts who is the secretary at Lake Melville school in North West River.
She says their Christmas concert is being held on December 17th at 7pm in their school gym.
Watts adds that the last day of school for their Christmas holidays is December 19th and they're off until January 5th, the same as all schools in Labrador.
Makkovik will be holding their concert on December 15, and it will begin at 7 pm.
We spoke with Joyce Andersen, the secretary for John Christian Erhardt Memorial.
She says the agenda has not been finalized yet, but it's just about complete.
Andersen says once it is finished, she'll fax us a copy to air for our Makkovik listeners.
To find out about Peacock Primary School's Christmas Concert we spoke with the Principal, Sandra Broomfield.
She says the Primary school in Happy Valley Goose Bay already held their concert on December 6th.
In fact, they had two concerts, one for kindergarten and grade one and the other for grades two and three.
The Kindergarten/Grade 1 concert included the singing of songs like “Up on the Housetop” and “Christmas ABC's” and also two songs in French sung by the French immersion class.
The grade 2/3 concert was full of more Christmas songs along with two more French songs from the immersion classes.
That's all for our Christmas Concert report, we hope all the students have a great time at the concerts, and wish them a very Merry Christmas!
