Nunatsiavut Membership Committee

The Nunatsiavut Membership Committee in Nain updates the membership list by reviewing new applications, adding new members or removing members from the list.

Wilson Jararuse is the Acting Chair of this Committee.

He says the last committee meeting was held November 5th and the 6th.

And adds that twenty-seven new applications were reviewed.

He says most of the applications were approved.

But, few applicants were referred to the other Membership Committees where they had closest connection to.

Jararuse says sixteen new babies have been born since January 1st, 2006.

And it takes anywhere from 6 to 8 months for their membership cards to be processed.

The name of a member who passes away is removed from the data base.

The next Membership Committee meeting is scheduled for December 05th.

Jararuse says all Community Liaison Workers in each Town records the membership committee meetings.

In Nain the Community Liaison Worker is Joe Dicker.

All Nunatsiavut Towns have their own membership committees and for the time being, the Rigolet committee deals with Upper Lake Melville area as well.
