Patty Pottle of Hopedale became MHA for Torngat Mountains District during the general Provincial election last October.
She says there are a few issues that need to be addressed right away for her constituents.
Since she became MHA she’s received many phone calls on housing issues, either with Torngat Regional Housing or NL Housing Corporation.
The youth have also brought to her attention the need for facilities for them to hold activities or functions.
Pottle has also been working with the Provincial Government on the issue of Home Heating rebate.
Anyone who has a net income of $40,000 or less is eligible to receive a rebate in the amount of $400 from the Government.
For others it would be $200.
And that’s why an organization like Violence Prevention Labrador is in existence.
Carmen Hancock is the Violence Prevention Coordinator.
She says the slogan of the organization is Diverse Communities- Common Ground.
And she says that February is Violence Prevention Month.
There is funding available to host Violence Prevention activities which can be accessed by community groups or organizations.
Funding is available up to $1500.00 and the deadline for applying is January 15th.

Evelyn Winters is the Community Healing Coordinator for Nunatsiavut Government.
She says Elders from all Nunatsiavut Towns will participate.
Winters is setting up a Committee who will plan the agenda and other logistic details.
This committee will hold their first meeting on January 16th.
As well Winters is travelling to Rigolet, Hopedale, Makkovik and Postville during January to get some input from Elders on what should be on the agenda.
She received this input from Nain Elders last October.
In the meantime the Elders in Happy Valley-Goose Bay are scheduled to meet on January 8th.
Winters says once she’s had all these consultations with communities, the agenda will be finalized.
